Activate students´ vocabulary

Hello travelmates!!

Did you like this virtual journey? I hope you enjoyed going on this journey to Ancient Rome, and the most important thing, now you have a good overview about how Romans used to live in the past. Fortunately, we can still see the remains of the Roman legacy around Europe, especially in Italy, but also in Spain too. Here, we can find fantastic Roman buildings such as the aqueduct in Segovia among others.

For the purpose of researching other aspects of Roman daily life such as you will find in Road to Rome, the streets of Rome, going to school, games and races, building a city and teenagers joining the army  and so that you become in experts in Roman times, I have designed  a series of  final tasks that I am sure you will love to do.

*To see the tasks click on "Más información".

In task number 1, students will have to read 6 different small texts. Here, I have proposed you 6 different titles. The main aim of this task is to choose the best title for each paragraph and find out some details about Roman lives. At the same time, students will acquire new vocabulary such as gladiator, wax table, market stalls among other concepts.

In task number 2, students will have to read the definitions and match them to the corresponding words. This task will allow them to broaden their vocabulary relating to the Romans.

In task number 3, our students should be able to recognize the lexical field the different words belong to. They will have to organise new words from a box into the different categories: army, society and economy, institutions, baths, games and races and going shopping.

Tasks 4 and 5 require handling ITC. These tasks are motivating for students because they have to become explorers of the past and do a project in groups of 4 people using the Internet. In task 4, students will have to create an interactive questionnaire by using the web tool called Socrative (http://www.socrative.com/). Then, they will do the task in the computer room of their Secondary School. In task 5, students will research what is left today? The main purpose of this task is to involve our students in research on the Roman legacy around Europe, especially in Spain on Internet. Then, they will have to create a presentation by using Prezi, Emaze or Powerpoint and give it orally in class in English.
